PITFALLS IN SPINAL SURGERY On 31st January 2007, Professor R. Myles Gibson, Medical Adviser to MDM Bhd., presented a talk on the above subject. This was well attended by the neuro-surgeons and spinal surgeons (MDM members). Some came from Kuching and Penang. Professor Gibsons talk covered surgical risks in Cervical Spondylosis with brachialgia, the importance of spinal cord monitoring in scoliosis surgery and early intervention in cauda equinia syndrome due to prolapsed discs. Professor emphasized the need for INFORMED CONSENT. Mr. P. S. Ranjan of P.S. Ranjan & Co, a member of the panel of Advocates & Solicitors to MDM Bhd, gave a very comprehensive explanation of the Bolam principle and the ROGER v. WHITAKER principle.
